Maintaining good oral hygiene and reducing the frequency of sugar consumption is essential for preventing dental decay.

At OB Dental here in Limerick, we emphasize the importance of regular dental examinations to detect and treat areas of tooth decay early, before they can cause more significant damage to your teeth.

We use high-quality filling materials and a range of treatment options to restore damaged teeth and protect them from further decay. With our gentle and effective approach to dental fillings, you can achieve a healthier, more beautiful smile in no time.

Getting a filling at OB Dental in Limerick city typically involves the following procedure:

Diagnosis and Treatment Planning:

If an area of tooth decay is detected during a dental exam, the recommended treatment options will be outlined to help you decide on the best course of action for your individual needs.

At the beginning of the filling procedure, we will numb the area around the affected tooth with a local anaesthetic to ensure that you are comfortable during the procedure.

Cavity Preparation:

The decayed portion of the tooth will be removed and the remaining tooth structure will be cleaned and prepared for the filling material.

Filling Placement:

The chosen filling material will be placed into the prepared tooth cavity and shaped to fit your bite and natural tooth contour.

Finishing and Polishing:

The filling material will be hardened with a special light and smoothened to create a comfortable and natural-looking surface.

Types of Filling

At OB Dental, we offer two types of filling:

White fillings (composite)

The chosen filling material will be placed into the prepared tooth cavity and shaped to fit your bite and natural tooth contour.

What Our Clients Say About OB Dental?

I had a dental emergency and my own practice couldn't fit me in. Jacqueline saw me at very short notice and could not have been nicer or more pleasant to deal with. Would absolutely recommend and will be switching dentists going forward

I spotted Dr. Jacqueline O'Brien advertising on The Clare Echo, booked an appointment which I had within days and I can safely say I will be recommending Jacqueline to my own friends and family in future. She was very kind and patient throughout my appointment and made me feel extremely comfortable. A super dentist and one I'lI see using for many years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are fillings painful?

Usually no, as we use local anaesthetic to numb the tooth before working on it. However, if you do feel any discomfort during the procedure, if you let us know, we will stop and see how we can improve that for you.

How long does a filling last?

The lifespan of a filling can vary depending on the type of filling material used, your oral hygiene habits and sugar consumption in your diet.

Can I eat or drink after getting a filling?

You should wait until the local anaesthetic wears off before eating or drinking anything. After that, you can resume your normal eating and drinking habits.

What should I do if my filling falls out or becomes loose?

If your filling becomes loose or falls out, it is important to contact us as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. Leaving the affected tooth untreated can lead to further damage or infection.

How much do fillings cost?

The cost of a filling can vary depending on the size and location of the cavity, as well as the type of filling material used. Our team provide transparent pricing information and work with you to determine the most appropriate treatment option for you. Our pricing is available on the dental fees page.

Can children have fillings?

Yes, children may need fillings if they develop cavities. Our team is experienced in working with children and will ensure that they feel comfortable and safe during the filling procedure.

How can I prevent cavities and the need for fillings?
  1. Maintain good oral hygiene habits- brush your teeth first thing in the morning and last thing at night using a soft bristled toothbrush and fluoridated toothpaste. Spit out the toothpaste but do not rinse your mouth after brushing as this removes the protective effect of the fluoride in your toothpaste. Floss or clean between your teeth daily.
  2. Reduce the frequency of sugar consumption in your diet-this includes drinks.
  3. Visit the dentist for regular check-ups. Our team can provide additional tips and advice for maintaining good oral health.
